How to Apply for Scholarships

Set Up Your Student Account

Once the scholarship cycle has opened on January 1st, you may apply for scholarships by visiting https://pbaf.academicworks.com and creating a user account. Click the “Sign Up” button in the upper right-hand corner. When prompted, enter your email address and create a password. Once you receive a confirmation email granting access to the AcademicWorks system, you are ready to begin the general scholarship application process.  If you do not see the reply email in your inbox, be sure to check your spam folder.

Complete the General Scholarship Application

  • Once you have set up your student account, please complete the online general scholarship application.   Keep in mind the deadline for submitting your completed application with all supporting documentation is March 31st.  (Few scholarships may have a different deadline.  Please read all scholarship opportunities carefully for particular requirements and dates.)
  • To maximize your chances of receiving a Foundation scholarship, answer questions completely. Your responses determine eligibility for additional Foundation scholarships. You MUST answer all questions marked with an asterisk (*).
  • Read instructional text appearing throughout the general scholarship application. Further explanation is available by hovering/clicking the .This icon appears anywhere there is additional information.  If you still have questions after reading the help text, please send an email to scholarships@pbaf.org.
  • Applicants may work on their applications over time. To ensure that work is saved, click “Save and Keep Editing” every 30 minutes. If you do not click “Save and Keep Editing” every 30 minutes, AcademicWorks access will time out, and all information not previously saved will be lost.
  • Once you complete all questions, click “Finish and Submit.” If all required questions have been answered, a message will appear stating that your general scholarship application has been successfully saved. If you fail to answer all required questions, missed questions will be highlighted, prompting a response.

Apply for Scholarships

  • In some instances, your general scholarship application responses result in an auto-match; no additional action on your part is required. In other instances, your responses result in recommended apply-to opportunities, for which you may match qualifying criteria.
  • Select “Opportunities” in the menu bar. Click on “Recommended” in the drop-down menu under “Opportunities” to see a list of your recommended apply-to scholarships.
  • To apply for recommended opportunities, click “Apply” noting that scholarships may require additional questions &/or essays. You are encouraged to review the qualifications for each recommended opportunity before submitting responses to required questions.
  • Be careful, in the drop-down menu under the heading “Opportunities” is “All.” This is a listing of all Foundation scholarships including apply-to scholarships for which you may not be qualified. If an applicant submits an application to an apply-to opportunity for which (s)he is not qualified, the application will be accepted as “Submitted” but the applicant will be awarded zero qualification points and will not be considered for the opportunity.
  • At the conclusion of the process when you have submitted your apply-to application, an email will be sent to you confirming receipt of your application. If you do not see the email in your inbox, be sure to check your spam folder.
  • Prior to the deadline, you can view and update your application(s).

Manage Your Student Account

Review your student account periodically to check the status of your applications and manage your references.  Click on “Manage References” button to check if your references have completed their electronic reference. You may click the “Resend” button if you need to remind a reference to complete their reference.  You may also suggest they check their spam folder. Remember, an application is not complete until all materials are submitted.
