The scholarship process opens January 1st.
There is no cost associated with the Foundation’s scholarship application process.
The application deadline, which includes submission of the general scholarship application with all supporting documents, is March 31st for the majority of scholarships. To verify the deadline for specific scholarships, visit https://pbaf.academicworks.com.
No, you will not be able to change or update your responses or submit additional documents after the scholarship deadline has passed. Until that time, you can review and update your application(s).
Yes. Your FAFSA documentation must be submitted to the Foundation before the deadline. Please be aware that students may access FAFSA as early as October 1, 2019, for the 2020-2021 academic year using 2018 income and tax information. The earlier filing date of October 1 is a permanent FAFSA change in policy.
No, scholarships also take into account academic performance, college entrance testing, community and school involvement, the applicant’s response to the essay, and reference evaluation responses. While many scholarships reference financial need, each criteria previously listed plays a role in the scholarship evaluation process.
While only the Permian Honor Scholarship requires SAT or ACT scores, students who do not complete college entrance testing greatly diminish their chances of receiving a scholarship because such scores are a component of the evaluation rubric.
No, enter your SAT composite score for the reading, writing, and math components, making sure to indicate that the test was completed prior to March 2016. The Foundation staff utilizes the College Board’s SAT Score Converter, the official tool for comparing old and new SAT scores, to determine a modified score.
Yes, in the reference section of the student account, you will see if your references have submitted their evaluations. At least two weeks prior to the application deadline, “Resend” the reference evaluation request and/or submit additional names to serve as references. You may also suggest they check their spam folder.
Yes, good grades are not always the only requirement for scholarship opportunities. Some of our scholarships emphasize performance in leadership, community service and other extra-curricular activities. However, grades for scholarship recipients must be maintained at no less than a semester grade point average of a 2.5.
Your responses to the general scholarship application are used to qualify you for “Auto-Match” scholarships for which you are eligible. No further action on your part is required.
Your responses may also qualify you for “Apply-To” scholarships, where additional questions and/or essays may be required. You may find recommended apply-to scholarships by selecting the “Opportunities” tab in the menu bar, and then clicking on “Recommended” in the drop-down menu. This will show you a list of recommended scholarships you may apply to.
To apply for recommended opportunities, click “Apply,” noting that scholarships may require additional questions and/or essays. You are encouraged to review the qualifications for each recommended opportunity before submitting responses to required questions.
Be careful, in the drop-down menu under the heading “Opportunities” is “All.” This is a listing of ALL Foundation scholarships including apply-to scholarships for which you may not be qualified. If an applicant submits an application to an apply-to opportunity for which (s)he is not qualified, the application will be accepted as “Submitted” but the applicant will be awarded zero qualification points and will not be considered for the opportunity.
Begin the application process early to allow sufficient time to complete the application and provide the required documentation.
Proofread your application and essay. Ask others to review the application and essay prior to submitting it to the Foundation.
Provide as much detailed information as possible. Remember that completing the general scholarship application accurately and with attention to detail will increase your chances of qualifying for auto-match and apply-to scholarships.
